| The Environmental Health Science Program at CSUSB is the choice program for
those seeking to become registered environmental health specialists (REHS) in California. |
For over 30 years, the program has produced quality graduates serving at
various positions in Southern California. It is one of the three undergraduate
programs in California accredited both by the California Department of Health
Services—Environmental Health Specialist Registration Committee and the National
Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council. |
| Whereas the program meets the academic and experience including
the internship requirement of both accrediting bodies, its graduates are also eligible to
become national environmental health officers in the Commissioned Corps of the United
States Public Health Service. Whereas the program provides a limited number of
financial assistance—internship, tuition and book allowances, it offers ideal
opportunities for service learning, networking, and career building. |
| The program had recently received a 3-year, $300,000 grant from the United States
Department of Agriculture under the Hispanic Serving Institutions Grant Program. The purpose of the grant
was to
recruit and retain bilingual pre-professionals in the environmental health science. As part of the recruitment
and retention effort the grant provided for internship, tuition and book allowances for students working towards their
degree in environmental health science. The grant greatly enhanced
the program. |
